As a result of this disruption on campus, supported by some faculty members, many students have been prevented from safely attending class, the main library, and from leaving their dorm rooms in an apparent violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. The relief is provided to borrowers who enrolled at any Art Institutes school between Jan. 1, 2004 and Oct. 16, 2017. Archival research for this project was conducted in large part by Aidan Goldberg ’25, as part of the Humanities Scholars Program, which is housed in the Society for the Humanities. Upstairs, former bedrooms were turned into offices, which now house the Society’s staff and the yearly cohort of Fellows.

The star of these posters was Air-India’s beloved mascot, the Maharaja, alias “the Rogue.” Conceived in 1946 by Bobby Kooka and illustrated by Umesh Rao, the Maharaja was initially designed for an inflight memo pad. Characterized by his oversized mustache, striped turban, corpulent belly, and aquiline nose, the mascot would go on to become the face of the airline and propel the company to the forefront of advertising genius in the mid-20th century. The museum acts as a “living archive” of contemporary posters, all of which are designed to instantly catch the viewer’s eye. From decorative Art Nouveau panels to Madison Avenue advertisements, the museum presents an international display of posters beginning in the late 1800s and spanning to the present day. The 14,500-square-foot space designed by LTL Architects features cast-iron columns, barrel vaults, and also includes a cafe, gift shop, children’s exhibition, digital poster wall, and a classic vintage poster photo booth for visitors. Through exhibitions, events, and publications, Poster House presents a global view of posters from their earliest appearance in the late 1800s, to their present-day use.
