The 2015 Home Run Derby was the first of many in SCYDA Softball History. Highlighted by names such as Kyle Martin, Kyle Farnsworth, C.J Jones, Jose Alverez, Robert Smith, and Tommy Biershenk. Farnsworth was this years winner with 7 Home Runs followed by John Cauthen with 5 Home Runs. All of the participants had fun and are looking forward to next years Home Run Derby. The derby will be run on a first-come-first-served basis. However, it does not guarantee you will be able to hit.

In case of a tie, a coin flip or drawing would determine the winner. In case of a tie, we will allow those hitters to move on to the final round. Each hitter will be allowed to not swing at three pitches during their turn.

Explaining the Rules and Format of the Home Run Derby

If a player hits the ball over the outfield fence, it is a home run. These are the last five winners of the Home Run Derby, the MLB’s annual home run hitting event held before the All-Star Game. Batters receive one practice swing and 10 competition swings. Since a pitching machine is used, every pitch should be the same. However, there are times that a pitch is either too high or too low and this is determined by the Home Run Derby operator. If this happens, the batter receives another pitch.
After the tournament is over, the second annual Home Run Derby will be held. The deadline to register is this Friday, August 19th. Players can also use a tennis racket and hit tennis balls. Pete Alonso joins Yoenis Cespedes and Ken Griffey Jr. as the only players in history to win back-to-back Home Run Derbies after winning the 2021 Derby.
When it began, six Home Run Derbies were held and children competed in three age divisions. The winners of each local competition competed in the Home Run Derby Championships held at the Phillies' new home, Veterans Stadium. As the program's popularity increased, the competition became three rounds, a local competition, a regional competition, and the Championship round held at the Vet.
Regional competitions are held in eight different locations. Each local winner is assigned to a regional competition and the first place winner in each division advances to the Championship. Competition is broken into three age levels; Division A (7-8 years), Division B (9-10 years) and Division C (11-12 years) for both baseball and softball. Local competitions are held in towns or townships in April through July. The top three winners in each division advance to the Regionals.
We reserve the right to stop the derby at any time for any reason. Those who have signed up but have not hit will receive their money back. If there is a rainout, there will be no refunds unless you have not hit. The player with the most home runs will be declared the winner.
